Visits

Visits

Comic Art Ed! is about sharing cartooning education with students and teachers all over the world! If you are interested in having me virtually or in-person visit and provide your organization with teaching and mentorship, I offer a variety of visits and workshops. I am located in the New England area (Rhode Island and Massachusetts primarily), but am open to traveling anywhere, in addition to offering virtual visits!

On this page you’ll find my in-person + virtual comic book education services for schools, community centers, libraries and more!

Workshops for Students

Workshops for students consist of an afternoon full of learning all about making comics! Students play drawing games, develop their own characters, and draw their own comic book story. Perfect and adaptable for any age of student! I love to personalize workshops to any group. I am happy to adapt projects to fit the needs to students, teachers and schools! I also have experience teaching other arts, such as zines, drawing, printmaking, painting, crafts, and more!

Girl Scout Cadette Comic Artist Badge

In this special workshop aimed at Girl Scout Cadettes seeking to earn their Comic Artist Badge, your scouts will learn everything they’ll need to know about being a cartoonist from a professional comic artist! (I have also taught the Fun Patch in Cartooning, open to all ages of scout!)

Workshops for Educators

Teachers and librarians get to have their own hands-on experience making comic books! Adults get to learn different lessons and techniques that they can then take back to their students. Workshops I have given have gone to continuing education and professional development requirements for teachers.

Talks + Lectures

I have given visiting lectures and artist talks to colleges and universities throughout the country, such as MassArt, Oberlin College, and Bryant University. I am happy to visit your institution and talk about being a professional cartoonist, artist, scholar and educator.

I am excited to find out more about what you and your organization may want from me as a visiting educator and cartoonist!

“Cathy’s comic book art workshop series is one of my favorite library programs. I learned as much about making comics as the kids did, and it was so awesome to see such an eager group of tweens creating stories and art. It’s the first tween program we’ve had such a big response to in a long time.”

“As a working cartoonist with a specialized pedagogic background, Cathy possesses a rare and valuable mix of skills. I’ve seen them come into play in how effectively Cathy prepared comprehensive lectures, engaged with my students’ questions, and navigated sensitive content.”
